AHLEM

Ahlem

Founded in France

Since 2014

Introduction

Paris-born designer Ahlem Manai-Platt, founder and creative director of AHLEM Eyewear, launched her namesake label in 2014, unveiling a debut collection of eyewear designed in Los Angeles. From the outset, the line was distinguished by understated elegance and a savoir-faire approach to design. Much like high-end clothing, each piece emphasised finish, proportion, and materiality to articulate enduring style and effortless luxury.

Driven by an enduring fascination with art and architecture, Ahlem Manai-Platt designs generational eyewear defined by streamlined simplicity and refined detail. Influenced by the Bauhaus and the work of Tadao Ando, each piece reflects a considered exploration of form, light, and balance.

From the enduring application of early 20th-century design principles to a meticulous production process that preserves traditional craftsmanship, AHLEM celebrates elegance with precision and restraint. The brand’s alignment with architecture and design is further reinforced through its flagship stores, known as Ateliers, each with its own bespoke interior.

Key Features

Crafted entirely in the Jura region of France, the historic centre of European eyewear, each pair of AHLEM frames embodies a legacy of artisanal expertise. Rooted in these heritage practices and guided by modernist design principles, the collection presents a contemporary interpretation of timeless style.

First conceived in Los Angeles, each design is realised in France, moving between three specialised ateliers and through the hands of nine skilled artisans whose individual crafts have been honed over generations. Each frame is named after a Parisian street or arrondissement in an homage to the city’s enduring influence

Frames are crafted from custom 8mm acetate blocks, complete with engraved temples featuring a signature Bauhaus-inspired motif, or from palladium, electroplated with 22-carat gold. Drawing on her Tunisian heritage, Ahlem Manai-Platt selects acetate for its depth of colour, favouring rich blues and reds. While much of each frame is polished, select sections are raw-cut and left matte, creating subtle variation within the design. Metal styles feature hand-hammered details, executed using specialised techniques rooted in traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
